The
view from the Pier of Marina di Massa is unique: the mountains
are covered in snow in winter and in marble in summer.
In summer, tables
are put outside on the streets and in the gardens. Shops
are open late in the evening and small open markets offer
local products in the town centre.
In the evening, the Versilia coast road, nearby, is lined
with discos on the sea and restaurants with large terraces.
Massa, the capitol of
the province, has a very attractive historical centre from
where you can take a stroll to the Malaspina
Castle only a short distance away.
Along the coast in the direction of Marina di Carrara, in
the area known as "Partaccia", there is a vast
choice of campsites all of which are very near to the beach.
Ten kilometres of coastline, modern tourist
facilities, fine sand, blue sea, kind and friendly people,
excellent cousine. These are the main features of Marina
di Massa. This is what the tourist remembers best after
his holiday in this corner of the Ligure Sea, which is blessed
with unique natural features.
One of the main characteristics of this
area lies in the variety of climatic conditions condensed
in only a few kilometres. It takes a half hour car trip
to go from sea level to an altitude of 2000 metres through
landscapes which are totally different from each other,
like the pine-forests and the hills on which there is an
abundance of beech and chestnut trees until you reach the
Apuane, a superb Alpine mountain range from which marble
has been cut for thousand years, symbol of a cultural civilization
which is infact rooted in this Apuan area.
A landscape which is both unique and special
- the ideal piace for a holiday. Besides the sea and the
sun Marina di Massa is also famous for its splendid climate.
During the winter months the temperature rarely draps below
zero.
The Alps protect the entire Massa basin
from north winds, spring starts very early and trees begin
to bloom from the beginning of February, especially the
orange trees which are infact rather symbolic of this area
which, for certain aspects, is the same as that previously
described by famous writers such as Pascoli and Repetti.
