Island of Elba Capoliveri (Isola d'elba)

Absolutely enchanting, Capoliveri preserves an almost medieval atmosphere in its architecture, sober at the same time as graceful and elegant. It is located in the southern parts of the island, in the heart of Elba's mining area, between the iron mines at Mount Calamita and Mount Ginevro. From Capoliveri's panoramic point you can enjoy a superb view over the gulfs Lacona and di Campo, at the foot of a wild headland covered with bush, agaves and prickly pears.

The coasts of Capoliveri are some of the most beautiful on the island, with overhanging cliffs, visited by thousands of sea-gulls, and small bays with crystal-clear water.

In its surroundings you can visit the charming ruins of the San Michele church, immerged in the vegetation, the Focardo Fortress that raises to guard the Longone Gulf, the sanctuaries of the Madonna delle Grazie and of the Madonna della neve, located on splendid panoramic hillocks.

Villa Foresi as well is worth a visit. Located in the center of the Lacona Plain, it was built by Raffaello Foresi and surounded by a secular eucalyptus wood. Today, the villa is part of a farm that allows you to visit the vineyards and the cellars. Every year on the 14:th of July, the Festa dell'Innamorata (Sweetheart feast) is held at Capoliveri. Do not miss it if you are around at that time.
