| The
"Marmitte dei Giganti"
the "Marmitte dei Giganti" are emispherical cavities,
found inside limestone rocks and sometimes presenting a
smooth surface.
There can be found in some canals flowing
into the Turrite Secca (M. Sumbra), in the M. Tambura and
by the Valle degli Alberghi (M. Contrario). theiy origin
from the slow work of silicious peddles moved by whirlpools.
Some of them are even bigger of those found in the Alps.
The
Monte Forato
The "window" open on the mount Forato is remarkable.
The arch is visible from many kilometers away both from
the sea and the Garfagnana side. It probably originated
from the combined action of surface and underground karstic
phenomenons, plus the erosion from the natural agents.
The
marble quarries
The traditional extracting activity has carved the surface
even at the highest altititude, covering several ridges
with debris (the"ravaneti") and opening new paths
nowadays not in use and brought back to their original state. The
landscape is therefore unique. The main concentration of
quarriesis in Alta Versilia found on the relieves by Seravezza
and Stazzema. The Apuane Alps are also rich in iron, lead
argentifero, copper and other metals (some of which used
to be extracted ), and mineral and thermomineral springs.
The Pruno Museum
It is under way in Pruno di Stazzema, small town in the
south Apuane, the "Centro museale ed etnografico delle
arti e dei mestieri della civiltr agreste ed apuana".
The museum bears witness of the culture of the mountain
territory and is already open to visitors.
