Panie
ring
From Gallicano by car to where Rocchette road ends(the last
tract is not paved), near Piglinnico (1150 m); taking trailsign
7 the route rises after a brief tract of flat woodland to
a plateau. Below the Puntone di Mezzo al Prato (the noset
of the socalled "dead man"), is found the CAI
refugeE. Rossit (1600 m; 1h 20 min); from the refuge the
route stretches to the left(N-E), passing two hillsides,
then to the beginning W-S-W of the Pania Secca crest, whose
peak (1711 m) can be easily reached in about 45 min, taking
advantadge of a splendid landscape of the other Valle del
Serchio peaks. Descending to the refuge in 30 min, again
on n.7 up to Focetta del Puntone (1611 m), to meet n.126
which enters the Vallone dell'Inferno pointing the high
pass Callare della Pania (1700 m ; 45 min from the refuge),
on the peak crest which runs from the highest peak of the
group (Pania della Croce, 1859 m) to the Pizzo delle Saette
spur (1720 m). Once at the Callare turn left at the Pania
della Croce N crest and in 15 min here it is the the summit,
overlooking Versilia and the sea. Back to Callare turn left
at the 126 trail descending the W side of the mountain towards
the nice Mosceta meadows and Rifugio Del Freo (1180 m).
Once at the bottom of the slope (1 h from the Pania peak
), by the bed of Canale delle Verghe, go right without crossing
the waters, following (towards N ) trailsign 9, until you
meet the joint of the 127 trailsign which goes round the
Pizzo delle Saette bottom and then goes down to Piglinnico
(1h 30 min).
length: 6.30 - 7 h.
"F" Itinerary in summer but hard in winter with
hard snow and bad weather (most of the itinerary runs at
high altitude). Those willing to limit their route to the
Pania Secca once at Focetta del Puntone have to descend
on the right along Borra di Canala (it. 139), taking at
the end itinerary 127 to the right to go back to Piglinnico.
The
"Marmitte dei Giganti"
This nice circular route suits those
who practiced with ropes and climbing; its peculiarity are
the "Marmitte dei Giganti", mainly found in two
channels on the S side of M. Sumbra, the Fosso del Fatonero
and Fosso dell'Anguillara: it is preferable to rise the
first and descend the second in order to rope down the most
difficult parts. From the road Arni-Castelnuovo Garfagnana,
down below Tre Fiumi, in the bed of Turrite Secca, rising
till the the joint with Fosso del Fatonero (about 600 m
). Here starts the rise with yellow signs passing easy potholes
(except one that can be avoided by going out the channel
bed for a few meters. As the channel widens up the route
reaches a grassland pointing towards a "colletto"(1049
m) nearby the Fosso dell'Anguillara (1h 30). After 200 m
the route enters the channel: roping down at least five
times, using the pegs (the highest jump is about 8 mt. long).
The channels ends in a pit, then reaching the bed and finally
the asphalt road (about 2 h from the "colletto").
length : 3h.30, which can vary according to the number of
hikers and their skillfulness with the rope.
"E" Itinerary . Slinging
and at least 20m. of rope are needed, helmet is suggested.
In case of unsure weather broadcast the itinerary has to
be strictly avoided: with heavy showers the potholes in
flood can drag dangerous stones.

Corchia ring
From Passo di Croce (1160 m, by car
from Provinciale di Arni, just passed Terrinca) take the
lower way running on the western side of the mountain, below
Torrioni del Corchiat, frequented by climbers. Less than
halfanhour to Fociómboli pass (1270 m), close to the Focinmboli
padule (the area is rich of flouristic rarities ).Carry
on rising the trail on the N side of M. Corchia until the
abandoned quarries "Retro Corchia", a hundred
meters below the crest. It is better to choose the best
point to go up (on ther right of the cave the faces are
high and unprotected); on the left and rapidly on the summit
(1677 m; 1h 15 from Fociómboli). Going down S-E the crest
, till the traisigns take towards the wide Foce di Mosceta,
separating M. Corchia from the massive Panie group (1180
m; 45 min from M. Corchia peak). At Mosceta take n.128,
going along Canale delle Verghe for a bit and reaching through
meadows and woodland the agricultural and sheepbreeding
village of Puntato, where many buildings have been restored
(l h from Mosceta: on the way it is visible the entrance
of "tana dell'omo Salvatico", an important cave
torrentello). At Puntato take n.11, going up until the Padule
and the Fociómboli pass, then go down to Passo di Croce
(1h from Puntato to Passo di Croce).
Length : 4.30;
"F" Itinerary. In case of
fog, going down from the top of Corchia, pay attention to
not overtake the point where it must descend on E versant.

Forato ring
FromForte dei Marmit to Alpe
della Grotta (865 m) go up N along Sentiero "A. Bruni"
until Foce del Procinto, then down on the opposite side
to take n.6 rising from Stazzema. Passed the Fonte Moscoso
spring the route reaches Foce di Petrosciana (961 m; 1 h).
Once there the choice is taking the easy fitted way R. Salvadorit,
climbing SE the M. Forato crest till the peak passing the
famous stone arch ; Or else take the even easier 131 standing
on the NE side and passing the famous hole, then coming
to a junction with the first way. Carry on the easy Costa
Pulita crest until Foce di Valli (1266 m; 1 h 45 min from
Petrosciana): those who are lucky should see a pack of mouflons.
From Foce the route takes back to the S side of the mountain
(trailsign 7), crossing steep meadows towards Collemezzana,
where is found a farmhouse with fountain (45 min from Foce
di Valli). Right in front of the farmhouse is n. 124, towards
SE to go back to Foce di Petrosciana along the steep Monte
Forato terraces. Before Petrosciana is a comfortable cut
to the right (it.124 bis) which takes straight to it.6,
close to the junction towards Foce delle Porchette (2 h
from Collemezzana). Back on it. 6, it takes only 30 minto
go back to the refuge.
length : 6h.
"F" Itinerary ("M" when taking the fitted
branch: the necessary equipment is required ).

Tambura crossing, Via Randelli
From the square of Resceto take
the 18th cent. Via Vandelli (route 35) for 20 min; until
the junction whose left turn connects to routes 166 and
166 bis. After rising a bit follow 166 bis up a steep meadow.
The sign goes round a sharp projection, then on the steep
communication way linking the valley bottom with the high
quarries Padulello. The route passes the small quarries
at 1000 mt. of altitude and the rough Argea valley, until
the road (whose high part was carved in the rock) reaches
after the last steep tract the ruins of a house (1400 m
ca.). On the right the signs take to the Piastra Marina
ridge, che si segue fino a incontrare"marble road "
to the Passo della Focolaccia (1640 m; 3 h from Resceto:
the "marble road" can be partly avoided following
an alternative way). On the Passo della Focolaccia is found
the renowned Rifugio Aronte, recently refurbished and now
used as bivouac. Keeping on the Massese side and passing
the quarries to the right the route reaches the N-W crest
of M. Tambura, towards the peak of 890 m - 45 min from the
pass . Going down on the opposite side along the S-E crest
at 20 min from Passo della Tambura (l670 m), it crosses
Via Vandelli (sent. 35)which goes down the Resceto side.
It takes 30 min to approach an artificial carving in the
rock called Finestra Vandelli, beyond which is the RifugioNello
Contit (l442 m). From the Rifugio back to the Finestra on
the way to Resceto in a sequence of turns on splendid walls
(about1h 30 from Finestra Vandelli) recently restored by
Parco and Comune di Massa.
Length: about 6.00 h.
"M"Itinerary, on a ground fairly easy though characterised
by big differences in height requiring some preparation
. It winds up in a splendid environment, but it is under
the sun and with no water springs until Rifugio Conti. In
winter the snow can make it difficult especially in the
high Vandelli.
