This route allows to recover the historical
events and compare among them the most significant architectural
structures of the Lucca Piana: the parishes and the villas.
The Piana is in fact studded by all a series of these buildings
of remarkable artistic interest, elements of a singular
town planning fabric which changes and
models the whole territory. Every place is to short distance
from Lucca and is included from always in its influence
area: the fertile flat alluvial, corresponding to the ancient
district of the 'Six Miles', it is in fact contained by
mountains and marshy areas that give place to a little structured
perfectly and functional universe.
From the sea to the Piana: leaving from the coast there's
the possibility of choosing between two roads which the
hills cross to west of the Lucca Piana: the Statale Sarzanese-Valdera,
what culminates with step of the Quiesa and the Comunale
of the Massaciuccoli hill.
Both soon highlight a sharp change in environment among
two pouring of the hill: spacious, luminous, typically Mediterranean,
studded with olives and sometimes with isolated oranges,
that sailor, several darkness, damp the internal one. The
Massaciuccoli street, less frequented, offers also the splendid
panoramic lake and marsh view, besides every Litoranea binds.
In the little center of Massaciuccoli, the ruins of the
ancient Roman thermal bath, called "Nerone's Holes"
(I-II century A.C.), represent a valid confirmation of the
way of the Aemilia Scauri Street which is supposed followed
the margin of the hills to avoid the unhealthy coastal marshes. |
